Obituary

Patricia A. Ehlis, 87, Bismarck, beloved mother, wife, friend, and grammy passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026. No services will be held at this time.

Patricia Ann, daughter of Leonard and Eva (Braun) Tomek, was born on May 20, 1939, in Aberdeen, SD. She was the eldest of five children, four girls and one boy. During her childhood, the Tomeks traveled for her dad’s work throughout the western United States before settling in Bismarck, where she lived all of her life.

She was once married to Albert Wolf, and from this union came her first most important title as Mom to Bradford and Brian. Later, the second title she gained was Grammy as she welcomed five grandchildren and eventually five great grandchildren. She wore the title of Grammy proudly, a name given not only by her grandchildren but by many others who knew her caring heart.

She was an excellent homemaker and a fantastic cook and baker. She added a unique style to everything she touched. She was known to take a recipe and make it her own, which was always better than the original. Grammy’s pumpkin bars, potato salad, and soups were just a few of her many recipes that her family raved about. She had an incredible green thumb and her passion for plants was evident in the hundreds of plants throughout her home and garden.

When not being a homemaker she was a highly accomplished executive assistant and worked for I J Wilhite, Melroe Manufacturing, and The North American Coal Company over many years until retirement.

In 1977, she married Donald Ehlis and for almost 50 years he and Patricia shared a life together in Bismarck. They enjoyed refinishing furniture for their children and grandchildren, decorating their home, and caring for their plants and animals.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Ehlis of Bismarck; son, Bradford Wolf, Superior, CO; stepson Dion Ehlis, Plymouth, MN; and stepdaughter Dawn (Jim) Hatzenbuehler, Mandan, ND; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Brandon Wolf; Brittany (Evan) Harvie and their children, Maximus and Penelope; Jenna (Brian Jagde) Wolf and their son Kyllion; Dane Wolf and his children, Margot and Pius; Liz (Dustin Mordica) Wolf; and step grandson Hunter Hatzenbuehler; daughter-in-law, Kathy Wolf; sisters, Betty (Don) Wagner and Janice Hellman; and sister-in-law Kay Tomek along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Brian; her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy (Keith) Doughty; brother Tom Tomek; brother-in-law Everett Hellman; niece Darcy Wagner; and close friend Marcy Dickerson.

Patricia was known to donate and care for others, especially her furry friends. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations to the Central Dakota Humane Society or another similar organization in Patricia’s name are preferred.
