Patricia A. Schatz, 80, Bismarck, was surrounded by her family and love in her final days and passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at Touchmark Retirement Community.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Ave, Bismarck. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck following the service.
Born on May 22, 1945, to Edward and Marjorie (Davey) Talbacka in Eveleth, MN, Patricia spent her early years in her hometown before moving to Mandan at the age of 12. After graduating from Mandan High School in 1963, she pursued her passion for the medical field by obtaining an associate's degree in Medical Transcription from Bismarck Junior College. Patricia dedicated 41 years of her professional life to Bismarck Hospital and later to Q&R Clinic-Med Center One. Pat was not just a medical transcriptionist; she was well-respected in her field, eventually stepping into a management role. Doctors would specifically request her, highlighting her exceptional skills and dedication.
In 1967 Patricia married to Rick Scharf, with whom she raised three wonderful children: Scott, Jeff, and Kim. Pat was known for her boundless energy, her deep devotion as a mother, and her heart of gold. A truly hands-on parent, she was ever present in her children’s lives—whether at play outdoors or in their daily activities. She was fiercely independent yet soft-spoken. She enjoyed walks and going shopping. She had a soft spot on her heart for animals, especially dogs and her grand-dog, Nola.
On June 23, 2001, Patricia married Jerry Schatz, who was captivated by her bright turquoise eyes and kindness.
After retirement, she couldn't resist the urge to stay active and worked at Marshall Fields and Bath and Body, where her delightful personality shone in the retail world.
Family was the cornerstone of Patricia's life. She and Jerry enjoyed invaluable moments watching their grandchildren for a few summers, treasures that brought immense joy. Her home was often filled with the sounds of Elvis, Neil Diamond, and the Beach Boys, while the aroma of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies welcomed neighbors and friends alike. Pat’s immaculate sense of style were matched only by her culinary talents—being an amazing cook and phenomenal baker.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Jerry Schatz, Bismarck; son, Scott Kramer, Gilbert, AZ; daughter, Kim (Ronnie) Pearson, Bismarck; granddaughter, Jocelyn Kramer; grandsons, Carter and Colton Scharf; brother, Edward (Mary) Talbacka, Bismarck; sister, Dawn Talbacka, Bismarck and nieces and nephews, Chelsy, Ryan, Kate, Sarah, Eric, Krista and Meghan.
Pat was preceded in death by her son, Jeff Scharf; parents, Edward and Marjorie; infant brother; father and mother-in-law, Reinhold and Violet Schatz; sisters-in-law, Linda, Donna and brother-in-law, Terry.
