Ramona Sorneson

January 23, 1939 — January 23, 2024

Ramona Sorneson of Bismarck passed away on January 23, 2024, after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease. She was 85 years old.

A burial service will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. 

Ramona grew up with her parents, older sisters and older brother on the family farm near Almont, ND. After high school, she attended the Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a surgical nurse.

She met the love of her life, Clay Sorneson, and they were married in 1960. Together they spent their whole lives in North Dakota, living in Bismarck and Devils Lake. They enjoyed raising their family, camping, cooking, woodworking and rescuing many shelter dogs over the years.

Ramona was a very creative and artistic person, always interested in any kind of art or craft activities. Painting, drawing, sewing and quilting were some of her favorite hobbies. She created numerous quilts over the years, giving them to family and friends.

Ramona was a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church of Bismarck and the Parkinson’s Support Group.

Ramona is preceded in death by her parents, Carl & Roxie Knudson; sisters, Rita (Marvin) Hewitt, Colleen (Wilbert) Heid, and Joan (Duane) Johnson; brother, Clifford (Doris) Knudson; husband, Clay; and her brother in-law, Timothy (Sceone) Sorneson.

Ramona is survived by her children, Sue Brown, Bismarck, and Lorne Sorneson (Lynne) of Mt. Sterling, Ohio; sister-in-law, Sceone Sorneson, Boise, ID; and many nieces & nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Ramona’s name to the Central Dakota Humane Society, 2104 37th St, Mandan, ND, 58554.
