Randy was born in Bismarck, ND, on November 11, 1954, to Fred and Gladys (Weber) Ohlhauser. He attended and graduated from Linton High School in 1973. Randy played football, where he earned the senior honor “Oil Can Award” for being the most slippery running back (imagine that, haha). He also played basketball as a center for the Linton Lions. After school, he drove a milk truck for Lugar Schneider and part-time drove school bus for Linton, and that is where he met the love of his life (he just didn’t know it right away). Randy moved to Bismarck and started with Peavey Thunderbird, then UBC Thunderbird for 17 years. He then went to work for the University of Mary, and this became his home away from home for 28 years. He loved this job because it gave him the opportunity to keep an “eye” on our kids when they attended. He retired in April 2024.

Randy’s main hobby was making jerky and making sure there was always enough, along with LOTS of snacks (chocolate Easter marshmallow eggs and Smarties) for the kids and grandkids, AND making sure there was always food for everyone. He always loved entertaining. That was his life the many miles we put on watching our own kids in sports and now the grandkids, even learning the new sport of soccer and trying to understand the rules. He was my ride-a-long when I needed someone with me out in the country at properties, and I always thanked him for that because some days were long for him, just waiting for me. But NEVER once did he complain. I’m not sure who will do my grocery shopping, especially finding the sales there is a story to that for another time! Randy had the biggest heart made of gold. He would help anyone, and no matter what, he always had a HUGE smile. He loved and treasured his softball days, the MANY years he played, and the MANY friends he made. I don’t think there is anyone who can say he NEVER had a smile on his face, even on the pitcher’s mound. Randy’s other love, besides all of us, was THE TWINS AND VIKINGS. Though I can’t print the words he had for the Vikings, knowing they won’t ever win a Super Bowl, he still recorded them faithfully and would watch later so he could pick and choose the plays he wanted to see. The TWINS were his favorite, and he hoped someday they would win the World Series again. When he retired, Lake Isabel was home enjoying pontoon rides, and having the kids and friends come out to stay was the total highlight for him. As shy and quiet as Randy was, I can say a lot of people who knew him could call him a friend.

Randy married the love of his life, Mary Nagel, on June 9, 1979, and with that union came five beautiful children. We talked MANY times and said we had no regrets about what and how we lived. We loved each other dearly, loved our family and village of friends, loved God and the beauty He brought us, and many times said, “we love our life.” Please cherish each day like it may be your last!

Randy is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Amanda (Joshua) Ridl, Matthew (Alicia) Ohlhauser, Melissa (Patrick) Hart, Maria (Benjamin) Skoglund, and Mitchell Ohlhauser; 13 BEAUTIFUL grandchildren, Jayden, Madison, Skyler, Connor, Maximus, Cayley, Brooklyn, Brea, Sawyer, Maverick, Parker, Savannah, Blake; brother, Lenny (Mary Sue) Ohlhauser; sister, Candace Ramsden; and MANY, MANY nieces and nephews.

Randy is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Gladys Ohlhauser.
