Reuben V. Magstadt, 94, Bismarck, passed away on July 1, 2025, at the Baptist Health & Rehab.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM, Monday, July 7, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. Burial will immediately follow the funeral service at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Reuben was born on August 20, 1930, in Hebron, ND to Gottfried and Cinderella (Biffert) Magstadt. He was raised and educated in south Hebron and attended Hebron High School.
On March 13, 1950, Reuben married Viola Straub on his parents’ farm.
Over the years, Reuben owned and operated two gas stations and worked as a car salesman. Later in life he operated Magstadt Trucking.
Reuben had a passion for the outdoors and loved camping. He was a proud member of the Good Sam’s Camping Club. A skilled woodworker, Reuben crafted everything from macramé chairs to flower benches and other handmade treasures. He also had a playful spirit and loved board games and cards—especially pinochle.
Known for his sense of humor, Reuben would often tell family he was going to “study,” which everyone knew meant he’d be sneaking off for a well-earned nap, complete with snoring.
Reuben is survived by his daughter, Shirley, Bismarck; three sons Valdie (Elaine), River Falls, WI., Myron (Pam), Maple Grove, Minn., and Curtis (Cindy), Galesburg, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Mary Magstadt, Bismarck; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola; parents; son, Donald; son-in-law, Monte Preabt; and sister, Judy Holzworth.
