Richard L. Arneson, 80, passed away on October 31, 2026, at a Bismarck hospital following a recent illness.

Richard was born on February 6, 1946, to Helmer O. and Lillie (Lien) Arneson. He was raised on the family farm north of Driscoll, North Dakota, in the Arena area, where he attended local schools.

Richard married Sharon Johnson in 1972, and together they welcomed two daughters, Melony and Stephanie.

Richard enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, especially fishing, playing bingo, and spending time working on his prized red Dodge pickup truck. He was also talented in the kitchen, with a love for both cooking and baking, and was especially known for his delicious homemade rhubarb pies. Known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and perfectly timed sarcasm, he could always be counted on for a clever remark that brought a smile or a laugh.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Melony (Gregg) Alvarez and Stephanie George; four grandchildren, Jaelin Rios, Rylie Wedin, Brennan George, and Gavin George; his sister-in-law, Donna Arneson; his niece, Tamra (Darrel) Hellman; and nephew, Rick Arneson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Helmer and Lillie Arneson, and his brother, Arne Arneson.

Richard will be remembered for his humor, independent spirit, and the memories he leaves with family and friends.

A private family funeral service will be held.
