Obituary

Richard Erdmann,77, of Baldwin, passed away peacefully at his home of natural causes on February 7, 2026.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM, on Friday, February 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 413 Bismarck Ave, Wilton, ND.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, on Thursday, February 12, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck, ND.

Burial will be held at 3 PM, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.

Richard was born on June 23, 1948, in Harvey, ND, to Cecil and Ida Erdmann. He was raised on the family farm north of Denhoff, ND where he learned the values of hard work and dedication that stayed with him throughout his life. He attended school in Denhoff and graduated from Goodrich High School.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and married Lorraine Mullen, on May 14, 1972. Together, they built a life rooted in family and community.

Richard farmed for several years near Denhoff before moving his family to the Bismarck–Mandan area in 1979. In 1985, he began a long and dedicated career with Northern Improvement. Starting as a field mechanic, Richard’s strong work ethic and leadership led him to eventually retire as shop superintendent in 2014.

Following his retirement, Richard was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. With determination and strength, he battled and beat the disease after several years of treatment.

In his free time, Richard enjoyed yard work, gardening, woodworking, fishing, camping, and spending time on the pontoon. Above all else, his greatest joy was his family—especially attending his great-grandchildren’s activities and cheering them on.

Richard is survived by his children, John (Patty) McClusky, Joe (Rebecca) Baldwin, and Ella (Walter) Uhlich, Bismarck; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Jerry (Sue), Steve (Vonnie), and Bill (Kim); sister-in-law, Aileen Erdmann; and stepdaughter, Donna (Scott) Fowler.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; parents, Cecil and Ida Erdmann; brother, Michael; and stepdaughter, Kimberly Zayzay.

Richard will be remembered for his quiet strength, devotion to family, and the steady presence he provided to those who knew and loved him.
