Obituary

With profound sadness we announce the passing of our much loved son, Richard Joseph Green V on August 30, 2026.

Burial with military honors will start at 3 p.m., on Friday, September 11, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Ricky was born on October 29, 2004 in Johnstown, PA to Richard Joseph Green IV and Sharlie Robillard (Burns). He was born with a big head and an even bigger smile. From the time he started talking, he never stopped. He could make friends anywhere, anytime. He made a friend every flight on his many airplane trips, traveling between his dad's home in Bozeman, MT and his mom's in Anchorage, AK. Anytime he and his Pappy got together there was always trouble. If you gave him a stick, a pocket knife and a roll of duct tape, you wouldn’t see him all day.

Ricky was a proud big brother to Theodore (Richard), Lexi (Sharlie), Isaac (Richard), Skylar (Sharlie), and Evelyn (Richard).

Ricky lived in Alaska with his mom, step-dad, (Joe) and siblings (Lexi and Skylar) until 2021 when he moved to North Dakota to live with his dad, step-mom (McKenzie) and siblings (Theodore and Evelyn) and to finish High School in Ray, ND. After befriending every student and teacher, Ricky graduated from Ray High School in 2023, and went on to join the North Dakota National Guard.

Ricky enjoyed spending his time with family and friends; skiing, shooting, hunting, hiking, and playing video games. He loved to go hunting, mainly to dig a hole and stake out a spot all night long. He couldn’t shoot a thing, but he could dig a damn good hole. And while he loved to be outside in the great outdoors, he mostly loved to be around people and talk all night.

We will greatly miss his crazy conversations and unforgettably classic Ricky-isms: “A MAN WITH A HAT!” “Chocolate pudding isn’t for little boys.” “Be with my dog buddies.” “Can I show him my knife?!”

Ricky was preceded in death by his baby brother Isaac (Richard and McKenzie).

When faced with tragedy, we tend to desperately look for some sort of lesson that might be gained from it. We might say, "This is why you wear a seatbelt," or "This is why you never drink and drive." Ricky's "why" may forever be beyond our understanding. But the lesson is the vital importance of clinging to those we love while we are still blessed to be around them. Ricky was complex, and he was many things, and he was a blessing. He will be deeply, deeply missed.
