Robert "Bob" Meier

Robert (Bob) Meier Jr, 70, Mandan, ND passed away on September 23, 2023 with his son and family by his side.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.

Robert was born in Bismarck, ND June 16, 1953.  He grew up in Linton, ND where he graduated from Linton High School in 1971.  He was once married to Sherry Huizenga and in 1972, his son Darin was born, his pride and joy.  He attended trade school in Wahpeton at the time to become a mechanic.  He then moved to Dickinson in 1973 with his family and worked for Dvorak Motor and then a year later went to Parkway Ford in their service department as a mechanic and promoted to Service Manager over the years.  During his time as a mechanic, he was recognized for his mechanical skills.  In 2004, Bob moved to Bismarck to be closer to his son and family.

Bob was a man of few words but when his grandsons were around, his eyes were on them.  He loved just observing and enjoying spending time with them.  Bob loved anything cars and mechanics.  If you started talking to him about cars, he could tell you anything.  He especially loved when he was demolition derby and at the track.  He won 29 metals over his course of his demolition derby career.  He was also a pit man on the track as well for numerous drivers.  When he had free-time he loved snowmobiling in the winter and motorcycle riding in the summer.  Every once in a while, he would get out on the dance floor to his favorite country songs. In his earlier years, Bob was part of ABATE.

In his final years, Bob was in the nursing home in Mandan.  The nurses always said he was their hall monitor when it came to his friends he made while there.  He was always looking out for others and letting them know if they needed to look in on them or help them out. 

Bob is survived by his son, Darin and Tammie Meier; grandsons, Logan Robert (20) and Landon Tyler (15) and his former wife, Sherry Meier. 

He was proceeded in death by his mom and dad, Robert Amos Meier and Etta Meier and his former mother and father-in-law, Steven and Evelyn Huizenga.
