Robert R. (Rick) Miller, age 78, died on 11 June 2025, in Bismarck, ND, surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, 26 June 2025 at St. Anne Catholic Church, Bismarck. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at the ND Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan.
Rick was born in Devils Lake, ND and adopted by Robert & Vada Miller of Hazelton, ND. They later adopted Doug. Rick grew up and attended school in Hazelton. After graduating from high school, he attended Bismark Junior College and worked at the state capitol, where he got his start in printing. He then moved to Illinois to attend airline school; during that time, he was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve in the Vietnam War and married Mabel Acheson. Rick & Mabel had one daughter, Sheri.
Following an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Rick began his career at MDU. In 1975, he, Roger Kubik, and Dennis Ogroske started Flash Printing.
In 1986 Rick married Joleen, and with her two sons, Mike and Andrew Kneeland, blended their families. After retiring from MDU, he worked full time at Flash Printing for several more years before his second and final retirement.
Throughout the years, Rick enjoyed spending time with family, being at the lake cabin, fishing, attending & watching sporting events, and his dog Buddy. Rick was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and was especially proud of being a great-grandfather; they were the light of his life. Rick was a proud member of the American Legion, Amvets, VFW, and the Elks.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents and brother Doug.
He is survived by his wife, Joleen; children, Sheri (Christopher) Hanson & Mike Kneeland, Bismarck, and Andrew (Sarah) Kneeland, Omaha, NE; 5 grandchildren, Caitlin (Grant) Desme, Ft. Myers, FL, Kelsey (Gavin) Huntley, Grand Forks, Sarah (William) Liffrig, North Pole, AK, Kate Kneeland & Eva Kneeland, Omaha, NE; and 5 great-grandchildren, Gemma, Charlie, Declan, & Cecilia Desme and Margo Huntley.
