Roger Mathena, 85, of Moffit, ND, was called home to heaven on February 26, 2023.
Roger was born on May 19, 1937, to James and Anna Jane Ryan. On March 14, 1945, Roger was adopted by his Uncle James and Aunt Helen Mathena.
Roger attended Telfer School through the 8th grade. On December 5, 1955, Roger joined the U.S. Navy and served until November 1959. Roger served on the Ticonderoga and in the Philippines. He went on to get his GED and graduated from BSC in 1967. Roger graduated from the University of Texas in 1969 with a BA Degree in Sociology. He worked for the N.D. Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. In 1985, he went to work for the N.D. State Public Employees Retirement System. In 1989, Roger bought the bar in Moffit, known as the Bucket of Blood. Roger sold the bar in 2000 and retired to the farm where he grew up.
Roger is survived by two sisters, Wanda (Bill) Hansen and Jane Brewer; one brother, Pat (Karen) Mathena; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Laschkewitch and Sandra Day; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, James and Anna Jane Ryan, James and Helen Mathena; and brothers, James L Mathena and Don Day.
