Roger was born on January 30, 1941 to Fred Fredrickson and Edna (Petersen) Fredrickson
of Granville, ND.
On January 14, 1962 he married his “Miss America” Betty Howe at Oak Valley Lutheran Church in Velva, ND. She remained the love of his life.
Roger’s early experiences on the farm created a lifetime love of animals. He was especially interested in horses. At an early age he learned to break and train horses, he often spoke of his favorite horse, Dandy. He never lost his love for animals, in his later years he was fond of his dogs, Lady, Albert, Patches, and Lady.
Roger was a master at the art of welding. His work has been viewed by many for decades in Minot when they see the globe at I. Keating. This skill drew him to his work as carman for the Great Northern, and he eventually retired from the BNSF. Apparently railroading was in his blood, Roger became an avid model railroader and was very involved in many model railroad clubs throughout Bismarck. He was a founder of the railroad club at Buckstop Junction, and his work has been enjoyed by thousands.
Roger was a man of many hobbies and interests. He was a keen fisherman and loved spending time on the water. He treasured being with family when the fish were biting. There wasn’t a needle craft that Roger didn’t try and master, making beloved gifts for family and friends. He enjoyed woodworking and made beautiful tables and bookshelves for his wife and children. Later in life he developed a passion for the art of looming and collected several looms. Roger couldn’t find a large loom to suit his interest. Being the industrious person he was, he designed and made his own loom, an incredible feat of engineering.
Through his many hobbies and interests, Roger touched many lives sharing and teaching his skills and will be greatly missed.
His loving family includes children, Robyn (Derek) Smith, Heidi Fredrickson, Wendy (Randy) Kaiser; his grandchildren Tiffany (Jon) Silverberg, Chelsea (Noah) Nordhoff, Heather (Jason) Woll, Natalie (Jonathan) Reistad, Ashley Kaiser, Amber Kaiser; great-granddaughters, Addy Nordhoff and Kate Silverberg; and sister, Darlene (Gordon) Dahl.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents; infant sister; brother, LeRoy; mother and father-in-law, Clayton and Helen Howe, and brother-in-law, Don Howe.
The family would like to thank Baptist Health and Rehab in Bismarck for the tremendous and compassionate care that Roger received during his stay.
