Roland Roy Young was born on May 21, 1944, and passed away on March 27, 2026.
He was born on the family farm east of Baldwin, North Dakota, to McKinley and Lillie Young, joining his older brother, Larry. The family later welcomed a sister, Lenora Jean, who passed away before her first birthday.
Roland grew up on the farm and valued that way of life. He attended Cromwell School No. 1, completing his education through the eighth grade. In his younger years, he shared many adventures with his brother Larry, including custom combining trips with their cousin, Raymond Skoglund. He remained closely connected to the farm, helping his parents and later supporting his brother, especially with machinery and seasonal work.
After the passing of his father, Roland moved to town and began building a life in Bismarck. He was a hard-working man and a gifted mechanic, known for his ability to fix almost anything. His work reflected that skill, including roles at gas stations, Bismarck Implement, United Tribes Technical College, and Bob’s Pawn. He later owned and operated his own pawn shops for a number of years.
In 1974, Roland and his wife, Cathy, welcomed their daughter, Dixie. That same year, he adopted Cathy’s two sons, Christopher and Carl. In 1980, he married Rita. Their marriage later ended, and they remained friends.
Roland is survived by his daughter, Dixie Pasicznyk, and her husband, Paul, along with their family: Alexis and her son, Grayson; Jesse; Irma Heil and her son, Oliver; and Wyatt and Hunter Heil and their children, Brexten and Waylon, with a great-granddaughter expected in the summer of 2026.
He is also survived by his son, Christopher Young, and his wife, Sandra, along with their family: Gracynn and her husband, Brandon Kilber, and their children, Zennik and Sonya, and Macauley.
He is further survived by his son, Carl Young, and his wife, Malette, along with their family: Kelsey, ColeEdward, Tanner, Marc, Elizabeth, and Allen Essig and his children, Allen, Abel, and Jaxson.
He was preceded in death by his father, McKinley; his mother, Lillie; his brother, Larry; his sister, Lenora Jean; and his stepson, Stacey Peltier, with whom he shared an especially close relationship.
Roland was a hard-working and independent man with a giving heart. He valued conversation, coffee, and time with others, and he was especially fond of animals. He built many connections through his willingness to help and his easy way with people.
Cremation has taken place. A service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 30, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck, North Dakota, with burial to follow at Baldwin Cemetery.
