Ruth Marie Stewart passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on October 23, 2025.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 28, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00–7:00 PM, Monday, October 27, with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Ruth was born on March 28, 1949, to Otis and Donna (Kennedy) Pledger in Devils Lake, North Dakota. She attended Central High School in Devils Lake, graduating in 1968, and later attended Bismarck Junior College.
Ruth was the proud mother of six children: James Meyers, Alan Stewart, Kim Stewart, Scott Stewart, Travis Stewart, and Teresa Jose. She worked hard throughout her life, holding various positions including sales in home interiors, employment with the North Dakota Highway Department, and many years in the service industry. She was also an active member of Women of Today.
Ruth enjoyed playing games and cards, working on puzzles, and bowling. She also liked to test her luck with a little gambling from time to time. Above all, Ruth cherished spending time with her family and grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Cuckoo Grandma.”
She will be remembered for her strength, sense of humor, and the unconditional love she gave to her family. Ruth was an amazing mother who faced life’s challenges with courage and raised her children with endless care and devotion.
Ruth is survived by her children, James (Tammy) Meyers, Alan (Kelly) Stewart, Kim Stewart, Scott Stewart, Travis Stewart, and Teresa Jose; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Donna Pledger; brother, Larry Pledger; sisters, Linda Bachmeier and Sandra Adney; son in-law, Jeremey Jose; daughter in-law, Kelly Stewart; and former husband, Byrl Stewart.
