Sandra Darling, 81, of Bismarck, passed away on August 15, 2026.
A memorial service will be held at 2PM on Thursday, August 20, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1402 E Ave C, Bismarck, ND. To view the church livestream, click the link provided~ Sandra.
Sandra Kay Johnson was born on September 25, 1944, to Chester “Chet” Johnson and LuCille Johnson. She was raised in a household of three other siblings: Dean, Candy and Danny. Sandra played the saxophone, accordion, was a majorette and taught baton lessons. She was also a camp counselor at Farmers Union camp.
Sandra married Harry Darling on December 21, 1963. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Minot State University and Master’s Degree from NDSU.
She was a passionate educator, teaching in Tioga for five years. Then she and Harry moved to Glendive, Montana and served as a high school guidance counselor at Dawson County High School for many years until retirement.
Sandra was a lifelong learner and a dedicated community member. She was involved in various organizations, including Faith Lutheran Church, Retired Teachers Association, St. Alexius Medical Center volunteer for over 20 years, and a Pumpkin patch volunteer as well.
Sandra and Harry loved to travel the world. They had been to over 80 countries and all over the United States. For many years they enjoyed a cabin in Lake Metigoshe. They also loved their winter home at Mesa Regal in Mesa, AZ for over 20 years. Once they sold their property in Mesa they enjoyed their stays at Leah’s horse property as well Darling Ranch.
Sandra loved her family and was the glue that held the family together. She is survived by her sister, Candy Balkenbush of Conrad, MT, her daughter Leah Darling of Scottsdale, AZ; Donovan Darling of Bismarck, grandchildren Zachary and Allison Darling of Bismarck and their mother, Andrea Darling and many other loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harry; and two brothers Dean and Danny Johnson.
