Serena Jangula, 77, Of Bismarck passed away September 5, 2025.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM at Ascension Church, 1905, S 3rd St, Tuesday September 9, 2025. Visitation will be from 9-10 AM at the church with a Rosary starting at 10 AM
Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Serena Marcia (Teske) Jangula was born July 6, 1948, to Edward and Adeline Teske the youngest of 5 children. She attended elementary and secondary education at the Eureka Public System graduating in 1966. Immediately after graduation Serena began working at the local Eureka bank until she married Ralph Jangula in 1968. Their first home was briefly at Valley City ND where Serena worked at the Barnes County Courthouse. In September Serena and Ralph moved the family to Kulm where Ralph completed his student teaching. Their first born Denise was born while in Kulm. In December 1968 the family moved to McIntosh SD where Ralph taught in the high school and Serena was a homemaker. Dean Michael was the second child born in 1970 but passed away 20 days later of complications. Lisa was the third child born in 1972. Shortly thereafter Serena began working at the local bank at McIntosh SD. In 1980 the family moved 1 more time into Bismarck ND where Ralph and Serena built there dream home. The last child Mike Joseph was born after moving to Bismarck. The family bought and operated a small business for many years in Bismarck. But in 1981 Serena began a 42 year career working in the automotive business beginning as a teller/bookkeeper for Missouri Valley Motors and finishing her career as an Office Manager for Cedric Theel Toyota.
Serena loved caring for her flower garden and vegetable gardens as well as spending as much time as she could with her children and 2 grandsons. The grandsons spent nearly every summer with Serena and Ralph helping on the family farm, fishing, sightseeing and playing Yahtzee. But the main hobby for Serena and Ralph was attending truck and tractor pulling events, NHRA drag racing, but mostly traveling 4 states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin attending oval dirt track racing in the summer months and going to Phoenix, Tucson, Casa Grande, and Apache Junction for winter racing. The favorite racing class was the super late model division.
Serena is survived by her husband Ralph Jangula, daughter and son in law Denise (Kent) Masseth Bismarck ND, daughter Lisa Thompson and special friend Ross Phoenix AZ, son Mike Jangula Bismarck ND, grandson Brandon Masseth Bismarck ND, grandson Zakk Thompson and special friend Dominique Phoenix AZ, and great granddaughter Desirae Thompson Phoenix AZ.
Serena was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Adeline Teske Eureka SD, brother Elnathan (Gloria) Teske Green Bay Wisconsin, brother Marvin (Lillian) Teske Washington State, sister Luella (LeRoy) Splitt Eureka SD, sister Victoria (Willie) Forkel Hosmer SD, and infant son Dean Michael Jangula.
