Shirel Ann Zillier, 79, passed away on April 24, 2026, at CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck, North Dakota.
A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, May 1, at St. George's Episcopal Church, 601 N 4th St, Bismarck, ND. Visitation will be held one prior.To view the service livestream please click on the link provided ~ Shirel
Burial will be held at 1 PM at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Shirel was born July 22, 1946, to Harvey and Mardell Brasch in Bloomfield, Nebraska. The family later moved to Norfolk, Nebraska, where she graduated high school. After graduation, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she met her husband, Jerry C. Zillier. They were married on June 11, 1966. Over the years, Shirel held many jobs, including positions at Provident lIfe, Bismarck Tribune, Basin Electric, and Bank of North Dakota where she worked until her retirement.
She was an avid quilter and crafter. She generously shared her talents by making quilts for her community including veterans of her church, pet blankets for the local animal shelter, and many baby hats for newborns at local hospitals. Shirel also enjoyed volunteering with many local charities, including helping run bunco at the senior center. She was one of the main pillars of St. George Episcopal Church and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Shirel is survived by her three daughters: Shelley (Tom) Kelsch of Mandan, Elizabeth Zillier of Phoenix, Arizona, Vicki (Tom) Loepke of Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Christie Becker (Kevin Keller) Meghan (Josh) Gendron, Shanna (Brandon) Koch, Ashley Rath, Sarah Rath, Morgan (Alec) Jacobs, Rylie Loepke, Tyler (Fabiola) Ness, Jacob Loepke, Lucas Schmidt; and 11 great-grandchildren, Braxton, Hannah, Madison, Kabrina, Brynlee, Kadenz, Declan, Avery, Elliott, Liam and Miles; her brother, Jerry (LaNae) Brasch; her sisters-in-law, Helen Brasch and Roberta Rathbun; and her brother-in-law, Steve (Jwin) Zillier; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; her parents, Harvey and Mardell; her sister, Susan; her brother, Jimmy; and many aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. George Episcopal Church or to a charity of your choice in Shirel’s honor. Following the memorial service, the family invites you to join them at the church for fellowship and lunch.
