Shirley A
Svihla
May 27, 1935 – April 9, 2026
Shirley Ann Svihla, 90, Bismarck ND gave up her earthly journey to be with Jesus on the 9th day of April in the year of our lord 2026. Shirley Ann Wiest was born May 27, 1935 in Mandan ND, the daughter of Henry and Ernistine ( Deis ) Wiest.
She was married twice, Maynard Vernon Veith and Ervin Paul Svihla. She was a devoted mother to her four children Charles, Jamie and Rebecca Veith and Bryan Svihla.
Later in life, when Shirley found herself a single mother, she went to work at the state industrial school south of Mandan. Working with the youth quickly became her passion and mentoring them gave new meaning to her life.
She went to Bismarck Jr. college where she received an associate degree in commercial art, which she used in multiple art projects with the youth at her job.
Nothing made her happier than a house full of family or friends having a conversation over a good cup of coffee. At other times you could find her with pencil in hand expressing her thoughts thru poetry or drawings. As a member of New Song Church she helped set up a senior women’s group where she cultivated many lifelong friendships.
Although this is a celebration of life and a joyous time as Mom ascends on her journey, for those left behind it is hard to not feel a little sadness on her departure. Happiness comes from knowing she will enter into heaven where those who have gone before shall be waiting with open arms to continue the celebration above. In this party the guest list includes, her parents, Henry and Ernistine (Deis) Wiest, her brothers and their wives, Herbert (Mona ) Weist, Robert (Wanda) Wiest, her daughter Rebecca (Veith) Graff, and many nieces and nephews.
She leaves behind to celebrate in her absence three sons, Charles (Patty) Veith, Bismarck ND, Jamie Veith (Paula Dube),Stanton ND, Bryan (Kellie) Svihla, Denver Co, son-in-law Michael Graff, Fargo ND. 13 grandchildren, Bradley (Carissa) Veith, Matthew (Natosha) Veith, Mandy Lundberg (Jeremy Schutt), Brandon Veith, Camon (Tiara) Graff, Carmen Graff, Sean Svihla, Zach Svihla, Kyle Svihla, Harrison Svihla, Tylor and Megan Sigman Caiden Dube, 6 great-grandchildren, Odessa and Ryann Veith, Keira Veith, Miah and Cylas Lundberg, Layla Pelaez and one brother Richard (Kathy) Wiest, Reno NV, one sister Doris Heer Linton ND and many friends. The celebration will continue until we all get there.
