Skylar GreyEagle

Skylar Robert GreyEagle (Mahpiyato) 27, passed away on May 18, 2024, after a long battle with addiction. 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, May 24, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. 

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, May 23, at Parkway Funeral Service.

Skylar was born on December 17, 1996, in Bismarck, ND to Robert and Tanya GreyEagle. He attended Century High School for two and a half years and graduated from Marmot High School in 2015. 

Skylar was raised in the church community. At 6 years old Skylar told his dad he wanted to ask Jesus into his heart.  He was so excited to start his journey even in his young life. When Skylar was in middle school, he attended a church camp in The Black Hills. Here is where he thought that this camp would be the “worst camp ever” but Skylar was able to connect with Jesus and confess his sins of what he had done the year prior. 

Skylar battled with social anxiety which led to depression and addiction. Skylar's battle with addiction started at the young age of 11, experimenting with marijuana and prescription pills. In high school he started smoking heroin daily. He tried stopping numerus times, but the withdrawals were just to overbearing on him to stop. Skylar attended rehab multiple times with very short-term success afterwards. Skylar once said, “I feel like without drugs, I can’t feel normal, but deep down I know that drugs will be the death of me.” 

“I know I will get sober and get over this hold drugs have on me, I will stay sober and help/reach out to others that are struggling just like I am, I know it in my heart and soul, I will become sober not only for my family and my daughter but for myself.” 

On May 18^th, 2024, Fentanyl took Skylar’s life away from him and the loving family he had. His soul and heart were strong, but his addiction was stronger.

He is survived by his parents Bob and Tanya; daughter Brinley GreyEagle; brother Levi GreyEagle (Kim Kremer); nephews Dante and Landon; niece Peyton; grandparents Peggy Backman, Rose & Louis DeCouteau, (Solen) and many more loving aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and relatives and special friend Charelle Mickolio.

Skylar is preceded in death by his grandfather Bill Backman (Mandan) and best friends Preston Lang & Fobz.
