With hearts broken but full of love, we announce the passing of our precious daughter, granddaughter and baby sister, Sorelle Annalise Knutson, who left this world far too soon on July 22, 2025, at just over three months old.
A Baby Girl Who Knew Only Love
Born on April 17, 2025, in Bismarck, Sorelle was the most peaceful, joyful, and easygoing baby. She was lovingly nicknamed our “Angel Baby” as she was always happy; always content; and always a calming presence in any room. She slept soundly, welcomed snuggles from everyone, and rarely cried. Even bath time never startled her. When she did need comfort, it was always her mom’s touch that brought her immediate peace.
Sorelle was a daily companion to her mom, Shayla, accompanying her on errands, while cooking, cleaning, and winding down at night. She especially loved being outside. Whether it was a walk, sitting in the yard, or simply feeling the breeze, the fresh air seemed to bring her joy. She was right there with her parents as they guided her older siblings from morning breakfast through bedtime, already beautifully woven into the rhythm and love of family life.
Sorelle was deeply adored by her siblings, Pence (5) and Sutton (3), who constantly vied for turns holding her or pushing her stroller. Sutton often referred to Sorelle as “her baby,” and loved helping mom pick out matching outfits for the day. Pence had a favorite game with his baby sister, where he would move her legs and make racecar sounds; only the beginning of big-brother antics and imagination, and a sweet glimpse into his tender heart for his little sister. Through every interaction, Sorelle stayed calm, joyful, and full of love.
She is the beloved daughter of Cam and Shayla Knutson, and treasured granddaughter of Ron and Ruth Knutson, and Wayne and Robyn Hermes. She was also surrounded in love by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close family friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. Though her time here was short, we know Sorelle now watches over her family from Heaven with the same quiet strength and gentle spirit she showed every day.
Celebration of Life
A service to celebrate Sorelle’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Evangel in Bismarck, with lunch to follow. Guests are encouraged to wear clothing that reflects the beauty and brightness of life — color is welcome and encouraged.
Her Last Gift and Ongoing Legacy
In her final moments, Sorelle gave one last gift: she became an organ donor, offering hope and healing to other children and families. Her family finds deep comfort in knowing that her life, though short, is proof that even the smallest lives can leave the greatest marks.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Sorelle’s memory to support Missouri Valley Montessori, the preschool where Sorelle would have followed in the footsteps of her siblings. The link to donate is available here.
Special Gratitude
We want to extend a grateful appreciation to the exceptional team at Sanford Pediatric ICU, whose compassion, care, and grace carried Sorelle and her family through their most difficult days.
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.’” – John 11:25–26
