She was born April 10, 1935, in Dodge, ND, to William and Caroline (Huber) Erdmann. She was raised and educated in Golden Valley area and later moved to Bismarck. On November 11, 1957, she married Herbert Leupp and together they raised three children Mitch, Terri and Ron.
Sylvia loved to work and was never one to let the grass grow under her feet. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Mary and continued working outside the home until she was eighty-five.
Her professional career included roles at Viking Homes, Mariner Construction and King Coal. Later, she brought joy to the staff and residents at Redwood Village in Wilton, as a cook, where her baking skills were highly admired.
After Herb’s retirement, they moved to Mercer to be nearer their beloved lake cabin at Brush Lake, ‘their favorite place on earth,’ where they created treasured memories with their family and friends.
Following the passing of her husband, Sylvia moved back to Bismarck and worked at Dollar Tree, where she became a familiar face to many.
Her devotion to her children was evident in her support of her children’s competitive swimming careers. Though at this time, she did not know how to swim, she became a dedicated “pool mom,” volunteering for nearly every role with the swim club, driving swimmers to hundreds of meets, serving as secretary, vice president and president of the board.
Not to be outdone, Sylvia conquered her fear of water and learned to swim and then water ski.
Sylvia will always be remembered for her high energy, generous spirit and a cup of coffee and cigarette in hand. She touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her three children Mitch (Sue) Leupp; Surrey, Terri (Mark) Wilhelm; Bismarck, Ron (Elizabeth) Leupp; Conroe, TX; and her Grandchildren Kellen (Katie), Jordan (Jess), Seth (Hannah), Amanda, Amy and Hailey; step-grandson, Kaleb Weaver and great-grandchildren, Rory, Jayden, Phillip, Warick, Breyer and Wesley.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband Herbert, her sister Corrine Krein, and parents William and Caroline Erdmann.
The family would like to thank the staff at Baptist Health and Rehab and HIA Hospice for their loving care. A special thanks to Pastor Mark Narum for his continued prayers and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made out to the Cassia Foundation “attention” Baptist Health and Rehab, 7171 Ohms Ln, Edina, MN to help fund a new transportation bus for residents or HIA Hospice, 1400 43rd Ave NE Suite 212, Bismarck, 58503.
