Tyler attended Dorothy Moses Elementary School, Wachter Middle School, and graduated from Bismarck High School in 2005. In high school he was part of the BHS Demons Football team.
Immediately after High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. and served for 9 years as a Huey Helicopter Crew Chief and Gunner and reached the rank of Sergeant; he was stationed at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA. It was during this time he found Leo, his 4-legged best friend who was by his side through many adventures. His military service included 2 tours to Afghanistan and 1 tour in Iraq. After his Military Service, Tyler moved back home to Bismarck where he started working at NextEra Energy on the wind towers as a Wind Tower Technician. It was during this time he reconnected with Hayley. Shortly after and up until his death, Tyler was working at the Bureau of Reclamation.
Tyler and Hayley met back in high school when they were both just teenagers. They lost touch for a small time during Tyler’s military service, and when he moved home, that is when their true love story began. In a time of need, Tyler’s genuine heart and friendship was there for Hayley & Elijah, and inevitably that turned into true love for the both of them. On January 3rd, 2020 Tyler and Hayley welcomed Zane Douglas to this world, and their family of 3 became 4.
They were joined in marriage on September 4th, 2021 in Bismarck ND. Shortly after their marriage their son, Elijah Dustin honored Tyler by taking his last name and officially became a Heupel. Tyler took great pride in being a husband and father and you could often find him with his family doing things like fishing, hunting, bike rides, boating, jeeping or attending Elijah’s football games. He played hard, but loved harder. Tyler enjoyed spending time with his mother, brother and sister and their families, and there wasn’t a family function that Tyler and his family wasn’t at.
Tyler’s family and friends were the center of his world. His nieces and nephews all adored him. He actually had very few friends, because once Tyler loved you, you were family. He had a very special relationship with his father-in-law, Harlan, and mother-in-law, Deb.
He is survived in death by his wife, Hayley and their two sons, Elijah and Zane, his dog Leo; his mother, Fammie Heupel (Doug Bender); his brother Dustin Heupel (Kristi); his sister Krystle Cremer (Justin); his nieces and nephews, Harley, Kaden, Karaline, Olivia, Carson, and Charlotte; his father-in-law, Harlan Wanner; his mother-in-law, Deb Frank; his sister-in-law, Heather Elseth (Jake); his brother-in-law Josh Wanner (Molly); his nieces and nephews, Greyson, Zoey, & Jacob; his Grandmother-in-law Gloria Wanner. And numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Kirk Heupel; his grandparents Reuben & Janet Benz, and Wilbert & Lorraine Heupel; his Aunt Barbara Bentz & Aunt Deborah Pavlicek; his Cousin Anthony Pavlicek; his Brother-In-Law, Harley; Grandparents-in-law Donald & Alice Westrum; Grandfather in-law Peter J. Wanner; his Aunt-in-Law Ardella Weisbeck; and two special Marines, Trevor Cook and Josh Bosch.
