With heavy hearts but grateful spirits, we announce the peaceful passing of Vendela MacDonald, an extraordinary soul who graced this world with her kindness, strength, and unwavering dedication. Vendela departed this life on April 4, 2026, just days shy of her 99th birthday, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Born on April 8, 1927, in Sioux City, Iowa, Vendela was the daughter of Charles and Eliza Murray. Her early years were marked by a love for learning, a passion that would later define her career. She married her beloved husband, Allen MacDonald, on May 22, 1943, beginning a journey of love and devotion that spanned decades until his passing.

Vendela's greatest treasure was her family. She was predeceased by her husband Allen and her daughter Jeanette Martin. She is survived by her children, Kim Shelver, Val Jangula, and Michael MacDonald. Her family grew to include nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored with unbounded affection.

A dedicated teacher for over 30 years, Vendela possessed a remarkable ability to connect with her students, particularly those who struggled with reading. Her innovative teaching methods and genuine care made learning an enjoyable and meaningful experience, leaving an indelible impact on countless young lives. She took pride in nurturing the potential of each student, celebrating their successes as her own.

Vendela found joy in creativity and was an avid maker of quilts and crafts. Her hands were always busy, crafting beautiful pieces that reflected the warmth and love she poured into every stitch. These creations now serve as treasured keepsakes, reminders of her vibrant spirit and artistic flair.

Beyond her professional and creative pursuits, Vendela's most defining characteristic was her love for her family. Her home was full of laughter, love, and cherished memories, where her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren enjoyed time together baking, playing games, and sharing stories. Her legacy of love and kindness lives on in each of them, a testament to her remarkable life.

A celebration of Vendela's life will be held on May 26, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at McCabe United Methodist Church, located at 1030 N 6th St., Bismarck, ND. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived and to honor the legacy she leaves behind.

She will be dearly missed, but her light will forever shine in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Vendela's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting her spirit of giving and compassion for others.
