Vernon “Vern” Paul LeBlanc, 82, of Bismarck, ND, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and family on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Sanford Medical Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, September 23 at Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary, 806 E Broadway Ave, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00PM with a rosary/vigil service starting at 5:00PM, Sunday, September 22 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Visitation will continue an hour prior to Mass.
Interment at 2:00PM at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Vern was born on July 23, 1942 near Erskine, MN. He was one of eleven children born to Philip and Clara (Huot) LeBlanc. Shortly after graduating from Erskine High School in 1960, he entered in to the Army and was stationed in Fort Campbell KY in the 101st Airborne. During his service he served in Korea and trained in Microwave Radio Repair.
He married Virginia Noyes of Erskine, MN in August of 1962. They had three children, Deana, Michael and Timothy. They lived in New Jersey, Washington, Minneapolis and Erskine, Minnesota. After being discharged from the Army he worked at Univac, Lagerquist Elevator, and at some point purchased and operated the Leland Hotel and Bar in Erskine.
Vern married Mary Schott on December 3, 1976 at Nativity Church in Fargo, ND. They had two children, Scott and Aimee. In 1980 they moved to Bismarck where Vern continued to work for Lagerquist Elevator and retired after 30 years in 2002. During their children’s school age years Vern was actively involved in their academic and sports activities.
Vern spent many hours fishing and playing cards. He was a member of the VFW, Amvets, Knights of Columbus, served on the Ascension Church Council, was a member of the IUEC and Lifetime member of the St. Mary’s Booster Club. He was an avid St. Mary’s fan and longtime ticket taker for sporting events. Vern loved to visit and was never at a loss for words. He was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren, they meant the world to him and he would boast about them to anybody who would listen. Vern and Mary were blessed to have many adventures over the years with their close friends, Ron and Ruth Knutson, who they consider to be family. He enjoyed working many years selling fireworks for Ron. After retirement, Vern was happy to get back to his roots, farming and ranching.
Vern is survived by his loving wife, Mary; children, Deana Johnson, Michael (Anna) LeBlanc, Timothy (Susan) LeBlanc, Scott LeBlanc and Aimee Thiessen; grandchildren, Melissa, Megan, Alex, Andrew, Rachel, Victoria, Veronica, Clara, Charlotte, Nate, Mabel, & Mackenzie; great-grandchildren, Evalee, Leovani, Peyton, Lucas, Oliver & Liam; brother and sister in-laws, Ardyce LeBlanc, Joan LeBlanc, Tom (Mary) Schott, Deb (Bob) Nelson, Shari (Dallas) Sauvageau, Jim (Mary) Schott, Don (Mary Kay) Schott, Chuck (Teri) Schott, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Clara; sisters, Aimee Brotzler, Frances Mayer, Jeanette LeBlanc and brothers Loren, Ralph, Darell, George, Larry, Jim, and Steve; grandson, Matthew LeBlanc; niece, Lisa LeBlanc Ramos; sister-in-law, Karen Schott; nephew, Nathan Schott and father and mother in-law Rodney and Evelyn Schott.
Family would like to acknowledge and thank the Doctors and Nurses at Sanford Medical Center for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to Light of Christ Catholic Schools, In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Light of Christ Catholic Schools of Excellence.
