Wayne Schumacher, 58, Bismarck, passed away unexpectedly on July 12, 2026. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18 at Eastgate Funeral Service, 3117 E Century Ave, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck.

Wayne Mark Schumacher was born April 4, 1968, to Louis and Virginia (Roberts) in Bismarck. He was raised and educated, graduating from Wilton High School. He began his long-time career with Plante’s Painting and Drywall following high school. Eventually, after years of hard work, he took over the business and renamed it First Class Finishes. Wayne’s work ethic and talent created lasting relationships with customers and contractors. He was eager to make sure the work he did was done well.

In his spare time and in younger years, Wayne enjoyed drag racing. This hobby took him to various towns in the state, including Minot, Jamestown and Harvey. He had a life-long interest in cars, especially his two Monte Carlo's. When his son Josh was old enough, he joined his dad to help work on cars. Eventually, Josh started racing and Wayne was happy to accompany him.

He kept busy and was well rounded with many different hobbies. Wayne was a master in his craft, especially when it came to woodworking. He created beautiful pieces, including plaques and epoxied tables. He also enjoyed riding motorcycle, pheasant hunting and spending time on the family farm in Baldwin. Wayne was an 80’s rock fan and attended many concerts over the years. He had quite the collection of records and CDs. Some of his favorite bands were Firehouse, Warrant and Poison.

Wayne devoted a lot of his time to volunteering, including fostering animals and providing woodwork to auction for Furry Friends Rockin’ Rescue. Wayne was firm in his belief – adopt, don’t shop! He served on the FFRR Board and helped with many remodeling projects. He had a soft spot for animals, and welcomed both a cat and dog, Simon and Shay into his home.

Wayne was a kind soul and would show up immediately for any family or friend in need. He had a heart of gold.

Though our hearts are broken, Wayne’s memory is a bright light to all those who are left to remember him, including: son, Josh Muehler (Ali Horner); mother, Virginia Schumacher; siblings, Allen (Robin), Gary (Melissa), Jean (Jim) and Mark; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Louis; brother, Lynn; and special dog, Murphy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Furry Friends Rockin’ Rescue.
