Obituary

Whaneta Gerhardt, 91, Bismarck, joined our Heavenly Father May 10, 2026.

She was born on January 11th of 1935 in Emmons County, one of seven children of Elias and Mary (Reinbold) Nagel. She grew up on the family farm until they moved to Bismarck in 1949.

Whaneta married Clement J. Gerhardt in Bismarck on June 22, 1954. They moved to Southern California in 1955 where they lived until 1968, before relocating back home to Bismarck. Whaneta dedicated 25 years to Missouri Slope Lutheran Home where she worked in Restorative Therapy.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting and spending time with her family, instructing them, and other friends and loved ones, in humility via her mastery Gin Rummy and other games of chance.

Surviving Whaneta are her four children, Clement L. Gerhardt (Paula), Susan M. Melarvie (Shaun), Frederick Gerhardt, and James Gerhardt (Jennifer), along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and all her beloved relatives and friends. Whaneta will be joining her parents, three brothers and three sisters in Heaven, along with her husband and her daughter, Helen Mees.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, May 14 at Church of Corpus Christi, 1919 N 2nd St, Bismarck. To view the church livestream, click the link provided~ Whaneta

Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Wednesday, May 13, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. A rosary/vigil service will begin at 7 PM.

Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
