He had enlisted as soon as he was able. The Air Force sent him to Vietnam to help defend our country. He then spent the rest of his tour at various air force bases, working in POL (petroleum, oils, and lubricants). He retired in 1977 from Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota. Soon after, he met and married his wife of 43 years, Katie on August 25th, 1979. A few years later, he took a civil service job as a Quality Surveillance Representative (QSR) in Grand Force at the Defense Fuel Supply Center. He excelled in the position, winning many awards and certificates. One of his biggest honors was servicing the jet fuel on Air Force I for the president of the United States. Bill has been a lifetime member of The Masonic Lodge, AM Vets, and The American Legion. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Wilton Fire Department.

After his second retirement, Bill and Katie travelled for a few years in their 5th wheel camper. They loved visiting old friends and family across the states. When they stopped traveling, they settled in Wilton, ND then soon after Bismack, ND. Gardening and canning were his pleasures and he would never turn down the chance to fish the day away.
