Evelyn was born in Bismarck, ND, to Alfred and Vera (Reed) Slovarp. She grew up on a farm in McKenzie, ND, and went to school in McKenzie and high school in Bismarck. She graduated in 1942 from Bismarck High School.

After graduation, during the war, she moved to San Diego, CA, where she worked at an airplane factory as a riveter. She was promoted to installing cameras on B-17s. Every month she sent part of her earnings back home, so her parents could buy a tractor for the farm.

Once the war ended, she moved back to Bismarck and worked at the state capitol in the tax department where she met Victor, her future husband.

She moved to Portland, OR, and worked there for a couple of years before going back to Bismarck. Evelyn married Victor on June 22, 1952 where they raised three children.

Evelyn enjoyed sewing, baking, pies, making donuts on Memorial Day, and hosting family gatherings. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

After retiring, she and Victor spent 27 winters in Arizona, until he passed away in 2008. They loved to dance, play cards, watch the Minnesota Twins baseball games, and spend time with their many relatives and friends.

Evelyn loved working at Bismarck Hospital as a volunteer for many years, as well as at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

In 2015, Evelyn moved to Roseburg, OR, where her daughter, Marcia, lives. She resided at Riverview Terrace. In 2020, she moved to a Transitional Care home where she enjoyed the farm-like setting and excellent nursing care.

She leaves three children, Paul Skaff, Bismarck, Marcia Gawne (David), Roseburg, OR, and Nancy Gillogly (Don), Denver, CO; three grandchildren Andrew (Kristin) Gawne, Emily (Ben) Knear, and Sarah (Kenneth) Fung, and seven great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor, her parents, brothers Robert, Duane, Dick, and sister, Beverly.

Memorials may be gifted to Sanford Health Foundation in Bismarck.
