Kay Sehn

October 17, 1955 — June 29, 2022

On Wednesday, June 29th, 2022, Kay Dianne Sehn went home to her Lord from the comfort of her home surrounded by her husband, three children and their families. While none of us were ready to let her go so soon, we are working hard to find peace without her presence and continue to pray as mom always did for “God’s will.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 7th, at 2PM at Corpus Christi Church (1919 N 2nd St) in Bismarck. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery (N 23rd St & E Ave D) and fellowship after at Corpus Christi Parish Hall.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7PM, Wednesday July 6 with a vigil/rosary service starting at 7PM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.

Kay was born on October 17th, 1955 in Mohall, ND. Her parents Marylou and Lynn raised six children with Kay being the 3rd in line. Her childhood was full of love and laughter including the adventures of farm life, small town school spirit, all things music, weekends at Lake Metigoshe, and bonding with her brothers and sister. After high school, Kay went to Minot State University and earned her degree in medical technology. Her career took her to Bismarck where she worked at St. Alexius Hospital and met her dear friend Renée and eventually Renée’s brother Kevin, who she married on November 24, 1979.

Kay and Kevin had three children, Matthew, Stephanie and Michelle. After their 2nd child, Kay left her job to dedicate her life to her family. Her greatest passion in life was her husband and kids. She was the glue, the rock, the constant source of unconditional love that made the family grow stronger as each year passed. Eventually, Kay found herself in a new career endeavor supporting Kevin in the creation of an earth moving business, Sand Creek Corporation. She was thrilled for this opportunity because it not only afforded stability for her family, but it allowed her to work from home and continue to do all things for her family. This was a challenge for Kay because dirt work was out of her typical wheelhouse, but she took on the challenge like she did all things in life, with a positive attitude and God by her side. Even though Kay and Kevin retired, Sand Creek lives on through their son Matthew.

Kay loved people. While family was everything to her, it wasn’t uncommon for her to strike up a conversation in the line at the grocery store, make a lifelong friend at therapy appointments, or encourage another person with a simple smile or touch. Part of her love for people included helping them. She was always the person to call for help with an ailment or affliction and was always trying a new, slightly unconventional home remedy, like putting raw cabbage on a sore knee. She believed strongly in God, family, and country and lived her life according to those values.

Kay is survived by her husband, Kevin, (Bismarck); son, Matt (Laural) Sehn, Bismarck; daughter, Steph (John) Schneider, Bismarck; daughter, Michelle (Kevin) Reese, Rapid City, SD; grandchildren: Hattie, Libby, and Henry Schneider, Ellinore Sehn, and Caleb Reese; her mom, Marylou Witteman, Minot; siblings, Mark Witteman, Mohall; Kurt (Barb) Witteman, Fargo; Deb Witteman, Sartell, MN; John (Marcy) Witteman, Minot; and Rich (Cheryl Ley) Witteman, Sauk Rapids, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kay was preceded in death by her dad, R. Lynn Witteman; sister-in-law, Renée Ostlund; grandparents, Susie and Paul Gehringer; grandparents, Ruth and Dick Witteman; and several aunts and uncles.
