Services will be held Wednesday, September 30 at 11:00 AM at Bismarck Community Church, 1617 Michigan Ave, Bismarck. A Celebration of Life reception will follow at the Farwest Rotary Community Center, 1021 Mustang Drive, Bismarck. A service livestream will be available on our Eastgate website, by clicking on Leslie’s obituary page. The family requests that all attending wear masks and social distance as appropriate.

Les was born on November 24, 1958 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gottfried Leonard and Rauha (Koski) Bossert. He was a middle child, born between Leonard and LuWanda. He graduated from Century High School in 1977. He went on to graduate from the University of North Dakota in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, majoring in Business Management and Records & Information Management. He was a brother of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He was a proud player on the UND Hockey Team, even though he sometimes forgot to mention it was intermural.

Les was a Certified Records Manager and spent his career implementing and growing the Records Management Program at MDU. He served on the ICRM Board as the Regent of Legislation and Appeals. He spent countless hours volunteering his time and energy into mentoring candidates preparing for the CRM Exam. He served as President and Board Member of the Bismarck/Mandan ARMA Chapter.  He was a charter member of and held several leadership positions in the Utility Records and Information Management Group. He also volunteered as President of the Board of Genie Watt Credit Union. Les will be missed deeply by his Records Management family and his dedication to the profession will empower generations to come.

Les’s greatest achievement in his life was his two boys, whom he shared with his former spouse, Roxane (Schwab) Wells. Les took the utmost pride in being a father to Trent and Evan. The three could be found spending the weekends snowmobiling, wrenching on cars, racing, coaching and playing basketball, chaperoning Young Life ski trips, attending Larks Games, or golfing. Les was the boys’ greatest cheerleader, always willing to mentor them in order to help them achieve their goals. He would go to the ends of the earth and back for his boys. Les expressed his love selflessly to all. He was a father figure to so many and those relationships only grew stronger over the years. Les was a genuine soul and made a friend with anyone he met. Les also fulfilled his life-long dream of learning to fly a plane.

Although Les’s obsession with being a grandfather began with his Grand-Pups, he officially became “Papa” with the addition of his two grandchildren, Aubrey and Dylan, whom he adored. He spent countless hours laying on the floor wrestling, playing, and loving the kids with his whole heart. He was with them on every holiday, birthday, and so many other days in between, including cruise nights, Sunday brunches, 4th of July fireworks, and summer afternoons on the pontoon. He has made a Packers fan out of both kids, and they loved to watch sporting events together. Papa always made the kids laugh, feel safe and loved. His love and dedication to them knew no bounds.

He will be deeply missed by his loving children, Trent and Evan (Lindsay) Bossert; his precious grandchildren, Aubrey and Dylan, all from Bismarck, ND; his mother Rauha (Koski-Bossert) Schumaier, Coleharbor, ND; his siblings Leonard (Laura) Bossert, Bismarck, ND, their children Mitch (Callie) and Claire;  LuWanda (Larry) Krynski, Lakeville, MN and their children, Becky, Ben (Alissa), and Sarah; his grand-pup, Rex, and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and so many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gottfried Bossert; and his stepfather Marvin Schumaier.
