Marvin was born in Hazen on April 15, 1933, to Rose and Arthur Birkholz. He was raised in Hazen where Marvin met his lifelong love, Luella (Lolly) Wieland from Streeter. They were married December 27, 1956 shortly after Marvin entered the US Army. While in the service, Luella accompanied Marvin to Paris, France. After an honorable discharge in 1958 Marvin and Luella made their home in Bismarck. Marvin always spoke highly of those he served with in the US Army. He was a proud member of AMVETS, American Legion, Bismarck Eagles and Bismarck/Mandan Elks Lodge #1199.

Marvin went on to sell auto parts for Berg Bismarck Motor Supply, first with a route through surrounding small towns and years later a local city route. Marvin semi-retired but continued delivering auto parts for Berg Bismarck Motor Supply, Mann Automotive and then Factory Motor Parts. He continued delivery until 2012 when a fall left him with a life-changing injury affecting his mobility and memory.

Marvin enjoyed his family, visiting with people, camping, fishing, traveling, old cars and photography, a hobby he picked up while stationed in Europe.

Marvin is survived by his son, Tom; special friends, Bobbie and Mathew Olson; sister, Florence Bullinger; brothers, Gary (JJ) and Jim (Joan); sisters-in-law, Kathy, Marilyn, and Diane; brothers-in-law, Bill (Pat), Leroy (JoAnn), Ken (Colette) Wieland; and many loved nieces and nephews.
