Beverly J. Dyk was born on December 15, 1934, to William and Freda (Droog) Dyk at the family farm near Strasburg. She attended Bakker District Country School through the 8th grade and graduated from Strasburg High School in 1954. She attended Ellendale Teacher College after high school and was a teacher at a country school (grades 1-8) for several years. Beverly moved to Bismarck in 1959 and worked as a nanny and housekeeper for Fred Wittenberg, who was a widower with four children (Robert, Sandra, Jerry and Mark). She married Fred on July 28, 1960, and they had two children together (Melissa and Jason). Beverly worked at the Kirkwood Mall for 26 years, retiring at the age of 72. She was a hard worker and loyal employee. Prior to working at Kirkwood Mall, Beverly was employed at the Bismarck Hospital, Kirkwood Daycare, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, and provided daycare in her home. She moved to Marillac Manor independent senior living apartments in September of 2011. During her recent illness, she resided at the Baptist Home.
Beverly was an incredibly kind woman with a gentle spirit and unassuming ways. She was soft-spoken, a good listener, and enjoyed being in the midst of family gatherings. She also enjoyed reading, listening to music, and attending her grandchildren's events. She was a charter member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.
Some of her most recent memorable moments included taking her first flight in 2012, at the age of 77, to attend her granddaughter's wedding. She discovered she liked air travel and flew again in 2013 to attend the wedding of another granddaughter.
